These Banana Oatmeal Cookies are hands down the very best banana flavored cookie I have ever had. Not only are they are moist and chewy for days, they are unmistakably banana-y.

Banana can be one of those flavors that can get lost when you inhale with this. It can be really subtle flavor. It always bums me out when that happens, cause I really like the taste of banana. And so does the hubs.

So when good flavored banana treats come together, we go a little crazy for them.

These biscuits make the list of banana items to go crazy for. Without a doubt.

And they are so moist, they melt in your mouth. Plus, with both oats and banana inside them, they are basically healthy, right? And ideal for breakfast!

Creating them is just as simple as eating them.

You've got the usual suspects -- butter, brown sugar, white sugar, an egg, vanilla and mashed bananas. You start by mixing all those beautiful components together.

I have to warn you. The smell of the mixture -- with all the banana -- is equally intoxicating. The hubs was at the kitchen creating the dough together with me (we left a bargain that included him carbonated with me) and we had to work hard to not put our faces, or even a straw, right in to it.

You then add all the dry ingredients (which usually means you simply use one bowl yay!) And mix it all together!

To bake them, spoon out about a tablespoon of bread and make a thick disc, rather than a chunk. They spread a bit after baking, and thus don't place them too close together. Bake them for approximately 10-12 minutes to get a nice, moist cookiecutter. So yummy!

One other thing I really like about this recipe is really where it came from.

My grandma (my father's mother ) passed out in 2008. Once I started draining a lot a couple of years ago, my uncle gave me cookbook he'd had didn't use. I've had it in my list to produce several her desserts ever since.

It was a tradition for my grandma to make them every Christmas! She gave everyone a large tin of them, which had been quite a feat with 6 sons.

I now know precisely how much of an effort it was! My goodness. She left them using a traditional gaufrette iron that goes over an open fire. My dad and I had them in the stove. They cook very fast and you need to be precise. Too long and they sort of disintegrated into the iron. Overly long and they burned into the iron and also we needed to scrub it out.

My father was pouring the batter and removing the cookies, I was working the iron, the hubs was time things. It required many attempts to get it right, but they had been so great! I have tried to create them on my own and it works. I would like to share the recipe, but the dang irons are so tough to discover. And pricey. At some point, I would like to just earn a cookie with the same gaufrette taste.

For today though, I am sharing these cookies. I don't believe I had them made thembut they are from her book.

It's such a fun recipe book to look through, also. There are so many handwritten pages, including clippings and newspaper recipes that were taped into the publication. I really like the way that they used to compose navigate to this site recipes from the paper -- they'd the person who submitted it is title and cute little stories. It's so fun to read through them! What a different time on the planet!

Anyways, I do not really know where this recipe came from. The paper looks like it was on a flier out of their square dance group or something (they were big into square dance ). It is definitely from West Virginia, where they lived.



Either way, I am so glad to finally talk about a recipe out of her book with you! I made a couple of adjustments to make them thicker and more puffier and they are delicious. There will be more to come out of her recipe book, but for the time being enjoy the banana.

Yield: 34-36 COOKIES


INGREDIENTS:



1 cup brown sugarpacked

1/2 cup sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup mashed bananas

1 1/2 cups all purpose flour

1 1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

2 tsp cornstarch



DIRECTIONS:

1. Mix together egg, brown sugar, sugar, egg, vanilla extract and mashed bananas until well combined.

4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
